Beautiful way to end a great day at the river, November 2025
It was an amazing day for November 12th. The relatively light winds were an added bonus. It’s difficult to find color this late in the season but the low solar angle of the sun gives the river an almost ethereal color and quality. The geese were as happy as I was and the sound of them splashing and cleaning their feathers echoed across the river.
As a crucial part of maintaining their health and feathers they clean their feathers by splashing water, ruffling, and even rolling over, before preening and oiling their plumage to stay waterproof and insulated.

Little Manitou Lake, Saskatchewan
May 30, 2025 – Smoke from forest fires raised air quality levels to the top of the charts giving Little Manitou Lake an eerie other worldly appearance. The heavy mineral content of the water created white caps and the strong winds that day made the waters look more like an ocean than a small lake. All of the photos that day took on a smoke filtered appearance.
Commercial Hotel - Blaine Lake, SaskatchewanOpened in 1914
This hotel is fascinating! To think a small community like Blaine Lake had a well built hotel such this is hard to imagine – but then the railway passed nearby in the day. I will be back to capture more of the hotel in the near future! It would be an absolute dream to be able to go inside!!
That door screams open and let me in and something about seeing curtains in a window half drawn, it just makes you wonder what’s on the other side!
Mildred Saskatchewan - Willness Land & Cattle
I have family history and a lot of memories of Mildred, Saskatchewan. Unfortunately there is not a lot of information out there on Mildred. I remember as a kid going to visit and it seemed like it took an eternity to get there. I always looked for these elevators (they were dark brown at the time) because once I spotted them I knew we were close! It’s a shame to see these landmarks deteriorate and fade away.
